Gravette, AR – The Gravette Lions Volleyball Team made history Thursday night by winning their second-ever District Championship, defeating Prairie Grove 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) to claim the 4A-1 crown. This victory marks the Lions' first district title since 2006, ending an 18-year drought and setting the stage for an exciting postseason run.
Leading the charge for Gravette were a number of players who delivered clutch performances on both offense and defense. Senior hitter Ella Pinches was unstoppable at the net, tallying 12 kills and 11 digs, making her presence felt throughout the match. Pinches’ combination of power and precision gave the Prairie Grove defense fits all night.
Middle hitter Drew Madison also played a pivotal role, contributing 8 kills and 2 blocks. Madison's ability to finish points and defend at the net helped stifle Prairie Grove's attempts to build momentum. Fellow middle blocker Mackenzie Wolf added to the team’s defensive dominance with 3 solo blocks and 3 kills, proving to be a key factor in limiting Prairie Grove's attack.
On the defensive side, Laney Chilton was a standout with an impressive 23 digs and 3 kills. Chilton's ability to read the game and keep rallies alive was crucial in tight moments, especially during the second and third sets. Rebekah Hearne added 7 digs, contributing to a solid defensive front that kept Prairie Grove's offense in check.
Setter McKenna Frazier ran the offense with precision, recording 19 assists to go along with 11 digs and 2 kills. Frazier's smart distribution kept the Prairie Grove defense off-balance, allowing Gravette to maintain control of the match. Frazier was supported by fellow setter Meara Russell, who chipped in 9 assists and 7 digs, keeping the offense flowing smoothly.
Outside hitter Emma Renfrow delivered 4 kills in key moments, while her all-around play helped keep the Lions in control. With such a balanced and deep roster, the Lions were able to rely on contributions from multiple players throughout the match.
